In this video presentation, Clayton Christensen has some really interesting thoughts on the relationship between religion and free markets and on the proper role of corporate management.
He suggests that successful free markets require a foundation of religious people who, because of their religious views, voluntarily follow societal rules of honesty, respect for life, and respect for the property of others. He worries that our deteriorating religious culture causes significant problems in our economic system.
He also discusses the false notion that corporate managers are responsible for maximizing shareholder value. He says that the responsibility of company management is to invest in the long-term health of the company, the prosperity of its employees, and the communities in which the employees live and in which the company works.
Brother Christensen has also written a fantastic book for members of the LDS Church about practical ways to share the restored gospel: The Power of Everyday Missionaries: The What and How of Sharing the Gospel
