Travel Log: Our Worst Road Trip Ever

We are finally back from our trip to California and while we are happy to have been able to see some close friends and family that we haven’t been able to visit in a long time, the trip itself was absolutely the worst road trip we have ever been on. I can’t quite call it a vacation because it was so stressful and expensive that it will be relaxing to get back to work deadlines for a change.

Our long time friend and fellow Maxed-Out Puppeteer, Sean, was scheduled to be married to his love, Kate, on December 30th in the LDS Temple in Oakland California. Despite the fact that my wife, Chastity, was over seven months pregnant, we decided that we would go anyway. We looked at plane tickets but they were much too expensive. Little did we know that events that were to follow would end up costing us a great deal more.

Merry Christmas!

To commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ this year, I found this nice little poem by Cristina Georgina Rossetti entitled “A Christmas Carol”:

In the bleak of mid-winter
Frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron,
Water like stone;
Snow had fallen, snow on snow,
Snow on snow,
In the bleak mid-winter
Long ago.

Our God, Heaven cannot hold Him
Nor earth sustain;
Heaven and earth shall flee away
When he comes to reign:
In the bleak mid-winter
A stable-place sufficed
The Lord God Almighty
Jesus Christ.

Enough for Him, whom cherubim
Worship night and day,
A breastful of milk
And a manger of hay;
Enough for Him, whom angels
Fall down before,
The ox and ass and camel
Which adore.

Angels and archangels
May have gathered there,
Cherubim and seraphim
Thronged the air;
But only His mother
In her maiden bliss
Worshipped the Beloved
With a kiss.

What can I give Him.
Poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd
I would bring a lamb,
If I were a Wise Man
I would do my part—
Yet what I can I give Him,
Give my heart.

May we remember, amid the wrapping and ribbon this year, to give the Lord the only gift that is really ours to give, a broken heart and a contrite spirit.

Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

BestBuy’s Radical New Policy: No Time Clock

According to this article from BusinessWeek Online , BestBuy has decided to implement what they call “results-only work environment” or ROWE. Various technology companies have had similar policies in the past, but BestBuy is trying ROWE to an extreme that has probaly never been seen in a company of its size and in its industry. They wont have any schedules or mandatory meetings. Employees will be free to work wherever they want, whenever they want, as long as they get their work done.

Video: Christian vs Christ Follower

Many of you may have seen the well done, now-famous PC vs Apple computer commercials where the two computers are symbolized by two people: The Apple Computer, who is “cool” and likable, and the PC Computer, who is “nerdy” and uptight. If you haven’t, you can view them online at the Apple website.

Well, the Community Christian Church has produced some parody commercials using the same format, but to compare and contrast what they call “Christians” with what they call “Christ Followers.”
