Helen had three years to achieve her desired neutral position. She knew darn well that neutrality was not what she was after. She had a negative angle, be it subtle in some areas or quite overt in others that she worked. This was obvious from the dark drawings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, too the dreary music she portrayed when the majority of the time the church in earlier years was mentioned. Sound bites of the faithful seemed to promote the greater air time of the dissidents etc..... it was quite obvious that she had spent the majority of her learning at the feet of the Sunstone like folk. It was text book of how they would have portrayed LDS faith. The witness of the authenticity of the LDS faith will always be held in reserve for those who need so desperately empirical evidence of what is real and true. Thanks be to God for the irrefutable witness of the Holy Spirit and the Manifestation of miracles that follow one who truly desires to know if biblical Christianity has been restored in its fullness as it once was in new testament times.

I only saw the second program, and by and large I felt quite positive about it. (Those Amazon images were indeed pretty crazy.) They did give Toscano a chunk of time, but the Church has excommunicated a number of intellectual types, and I think it’s fair that they give that some time. The fact that the Church chooses not to discuss them may be too bad for the Church’s image (and the right thing to do, which I agree it is), but I don’t think it means the dissidents should get less time.

My wife pointed out (and I agree) that one impressive point is how so many people that aren’t even involved in the Church anymore still love it. Even Toscano had some nice things to say.

Marlin K. Jensen was a masterful spokesperson for the Church. I was very grateful that he got to speak as much as he did.

And I think we overestimate the damage done by “negative” publicity. The Church is pretty well established in the US, and I bet that even negative coverage is likely to lead people to ask their LDS acquaintances about the Church rather than make people just assume we’re odd. I think we’re at a place where most “press is good press.”

My experience was much like yours. How much more representative it would have been to replace Toscano with a review of what the Relief Society organization is like instead of documenting her personal excommunication.

	Oh well.

Hi. as an exlds member of many years I found the program interesting. Sometimes I am sad as I missed many of the positive aspects of the LDS faith but issues like the Book of Abraham and Book of Mormon forced me to come to the conclusion that the lds church was not the true church. However I believe individual LDS must be saved. I am a charismatic and hopefully thinking person and I leave it to God be the judge. If I make it I will probably be surprised who else I see in heaven.
