I’m a former Texas CPS investigator. Please note the word “former” there. As you can imagine, I’ve been watching this with a lot of interest and frustration. When I think of the children that I had to leave in their homes because our legal department said we didn’t have a case for removal, and see the mass removal of these children from what are probably, for the most part, decent and loving homes, I want to scream. Loudly. Remember the Sting song, “I hope the Russians love their children, too.” Well, so do polygamists. And I’d like to know why there was insufficient cause to remove a suicidal 12-year-old girl who had been repeatedly sexually molested with the compliance of her father and whose father refused to support her in any way and whose stepmother hated her and who was perping on her little brother and was having auditory and visual hallucinations and voices telling her to kill herself…. if the State of Texas is now removing children because of a future risk of abuse. That was a distinct no-no when I was working for CPS a few years ago. Risk-based removals were forbidden. We had to wait until the child was actually being abused. I apologize if this sounds a little garbled. I obviously feel very strongly about this whole issue.

Based on a single anonymous phone call, the state swoops in and takes over 400 children from their mothers? What damn country are we living in? I have no affinity for Mormons, polygamist or otherwise, but what right does the state have to commit such a mind-numbing seizure before producing evidence to a court? CNN is now saying that the call itself was a hoax! If so, I hope the State of Texas is ripped to shreds in court.

What we are really seeing here is political correctness at its ugliest. Is polygamy really more offensive to mainstream society than gay marriage? The “experts” who think so are all over the airwaves tonight conducting a media trial of what strikes me as unprecedented scale. The coverage is completely one-sided.
